Securing the future of excellent patient care: Final Report of the independent Shape of Training review led by Professor David Greenaway is now available

All the evidence gathered over the last 18 months has fed into the final report, which sets out a framework for delivering change and for doing so with minimum disruption to service.

It offers an approach that will make sure doctors are trained to the highest standards and are prepared to meet changing patient needs for many years to come.

The Shape of Medical Training Review Final Report (Greenaway) was received by the four UK Health ministers in October 2013. The report was welcomed in all four countries. It sets out a broad framework for the future of postgraduate medical education and training.

The departments of health asked the UK Shape of Training Steering Group to consider how the Shape of Training recommendations might be implemented. The Steering Group's membership is: representatives for the four departments of health, NES, HEE, NHS Wales, GMC, AoMRC, MSC. It is chaired by Ian Finlay (NHS Scotland).

A report on the definitive policy proposals will be given to the four governments shortly.
